Cardio Canine Hands-Free Dog Leash

Training Instructions

TRAINING YOUR DOG TO USE THE CARDIO CANINE SYSTEM

This is the most important part to successful Hands Free Running and Walking with your K - 9 Companion.

FRONT ATTACHMENT USE

For Walking

1. With dog in front of you gently start to walk saying the word WALK.

2. As he gets in front of you and the leash tightens and he continues to forge ahead “Pull and Release” the Leash backwards until the dog realizes that the length of the leash is all the distance he can travel.

3. Praise him when he returns to the correct distance which is out in front of you but not pulling with either a treat or by verbal praise and say the word WALK again.

4. Keep doing these steps until your dog associates the word WALK with the desired action of walking.

For Running

1. Follow the steps for walking above and while in the walk position with dog in front say the word RUN.

2. Start to run with your dog.

3. As he runs in front of you and the leash tightens and he continues to forge ahead “Pull and Release” the Leash backwards until the dog realizes that the length of the leash is all the distance he can travel.

4. Continue Running, Pulling and Releasing the leash, and saying the word “RUN” until the dog realizes that the length of the leash is all the distance he can travel.

 5. Praise him when he returns to the correct distance by verbal praise and say the word RUN again.

6. To slow down and re-enter the walk position say the word WALK and slow down into the walk position. A treat for slowing down and reentering the walk position will reinforce that action.

7. Follow the steps for walking.

Again use the Pull and Release of the leash and the words RUN or WALK depending on desired action you are doing so the dog associates the two forms of use for this product.

SIDE ATTACHMENT USE

Same as the Front Use except for the following:

Shorten leash to half length per Product Instructions.

Reinforce the dog placement as directly to your side, pulling and releasing leash and using the WALK or RUN command as above. The only difference is the placement of the dog to the side versus in front.  It is up to you to figure out which attachment area works best for you and your dog. We have found that the side attachment is best.

Other Helpful Training Tips:

A Choke Collar or Gentle Leader may be necessary to help reinforce the commands. These can be bought at our website or any pet store.

Whenever you are approaching people, wildlife, streets, or anything that can distract your dog grab hold of the leash in front of you and slow down to a walking speed to ensure control of your dog during these distracting times for your dog.

Stopping and making the dog stay reinforces that you are in control and not the dog.

This quick release snap below can be pulled back and disengaged in case of emergency.
